Vigrx Plus Another Male Enhancement Supplement Tainted With Tadalafil by Counterfeiters

Consumers Warned to Exercise Caution with VigRX Plus Purchase

For those men who wish to give their sex life a boost, VigRX Plus may seem like an ideal product for that purpose. Information by health authorities in different countries, however, suggests that consumers need to be extra careful when buying this product.

Vigrx Plus a Male Enhancement Supplement

Male enhancement is a very lucrative segment these days. Many men are looking for help to improve their sexual health and performance. They desire to have a bigger, thicker male organ and to be able to last longer in bed. As a result, they turn to male enhancement products in the hope that this will offer them what they crave.

Sildenafil and tadalafil are the two most popular products for fighting erectile dysfunction in men. However, they are prescription drugs. Men who need them will have to talk to a doctor and get a prescription.

Products like VigRX Plus, on the other hand, supposedly contain only natural ingredients. There is no need to get a prescription from a doctor before buying them. For this reason, combined with the claimed efficacy of these “herbal Viagra,” many men go for them in a bid to avoid the embarrassment of discussing their sexual issues with a doctor.

VigRX Plus seems to be a leader among these natural male enhancers. This popularity may be a problem, though, because adulterated variants of the product are now on the market.

Vigrx Plus Target of counterfeiting

Health authorities in some countries have detected VigRX Plus pills with undeclared and potentially harmful ingredients. Popular among the hidden substances in these products are sildenafil and tadalafil, which are prescription medicines.

Sildenafil is the generic name for the popular erectile dysfunction drug Viagra. A popular brand name for tadalafil is Cialis.

In 2014, the Therapeutic Goods Association (TGA) found that two of the four VigRX Plus samples tested contained tadalafil, which was not disclosed on the label. It also stated that the tainted products were counterfeits.

Before TGA’s discovery, Medsafe had found out something similar. New Zealand’s medical safety authority recalled six products, including VigRX Plus, for containing unnamed prescription drugs. It later confirmed that the seized Leading Edge Health products counterfeited versions.

In 2016, the health authorities in Israel warned consumers in the country against taking some sexual supplements, including VigRX Plus. This was after prescription drugs and other products suspected to be counterfeits were seized at a sex shop.

Some VigRX Plus aficionados claim counterfeiting is a sign of the product’s efficacy.

Harm to health

There are many male enhancement products available for interested men. The belief among many men who use these products is that bigger is better. But the quest to have a bigger genital can possibly result in undesirable effects.

Tadalafil and sildenafil, which some of the male enhancers include, are not meant for use without a doctor’s prescription. The use of these drugs without the advice of a doctor or qualified health professional poses considerable risk to health.

These prescription medicines can interact with certain medications for heart-related issues. Their use without a doctor’s prescription could potentially lead to death.

Besides the active ingredients in Viagra and Cialis, other related compounds may be present in “natural” male enhancers, especially the fake ones. Medsafe found hydroxy-homo sildenafil and thiosildenafil, compounds similar to sildenafil, in some of the products.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) lists some products it has found to contain the undeclared ingredients on its website. The list – a long one – is on its “Tainted Sexual Enhancement Products” page and is updated from time to time.

The American government agency stated that undisclosed ingredients are being used more and more in products marketed for sexual enhancement. These ingredients may be prescribed medicines, controlled substances, or untested active ingredients.

Consumer safety

It is easier for natural male enhancement supplements, or other supplements, to contain hidden ingredients. The main reason for this is that they are not strictly regulated in the same way as drugs. As a result, consumers need to be extra cautious when using them.

The FDA states that it is unable to test all sexual enhancement products on the market. It has only been able to detect a small fraction of those with hidden ingredients, according to the regulator.

Health experts advise those using male enhancement products reported to contain hidden ingredients to stop at once. This action is especially crucial if a consumer is starting to feel unwell.

Ideally, a person should first speak with a doctor before using any supplement. This will enable them to have information on how to ensure safety. Speaking with a doctor is crucial when already on prescription drugs or having an existing medical condition.

In its safety advisory regarding counterfeit VigRX Plus, the TGA advised consumers against buying medicines from obscure websites abroad. Products bought from such platforms are more likely to contain undeclared and potentially unsafe constituents.

Aware that its product is increasingly being counterfeited, the producer of VigRX Plus has since then put in place a mechanism to detect fake versions. The company started including an authenticity verification code on product packaging in 2012.
