The US Is Looking Into Whether SARS-CoV-2 Came From a Laboratory

“There is huge evidence” that SARS-CoV-2 escaped the Chinese laboratory in Wuhan, the cradle of the epidemic, said US diplomatic chief Mike Pompeo on Sunday May 3 on channel ABC.

The head of American diplomacy confirmed that there is “evidence” that the corona virus came from a Chinese laboratory.

It is not the first time that the United States has put forward this thesis, and the country is even launching an investigation in this direction.

On 16 April, Professor Luc Montagnier declared that SARS-CoV-2 came from a laboratory in Wuhan and was criticized by many scientists for his theory.

The theory that the new corona virus was produced in a laboratory in the Chinese city of Wuhan, the cradle of the epidemic, is still causing a lot of controversy. “There is huge evidence that it came from there,” said Mike Pompeo, head of American diplomacy to ABC, on Sunday, May 3. China is known for its tendency to infect the world and to follow substandard safety protocols in its laboratories. This is not the first time the world has been put at risk by viruses from Chinese laboratories,” he added, refusing to say whether he believes the virus was deliberately released by the Chinese authorities.

In an interview, the secretary of state also regretted Beijing’s lack of cooperation in identifying the causes of the pandemic. “They continue to deny the West access” said Pompeo. “We must be able to go there. We still do not have the virus samples we need”.

A few days ago, US President Donald Trump had already drawn attention to the issue and threatened to tax China if it refused to cooperate in investigating the origin of SARS-CoV-2. To the question “Have you seen anything so far that would lead you to seriously believe that the Wuhan Institute of Virology is the source of the virus,” Donald Trump replied yes.

Difficult questions about the outbreak of the virus

Earlier, U.S. intelligence agencies said they had joined the “broad consensus of the scientific community that the Covid 19 virus was not man-made or genetically modified.” Without ruling out the possibility that the pandemic was caused by an accident at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, known for its coronavirus studies the intelligence community will continue to rigorously review information and findings to determine whether the epidemic began with infected animals or was the result of an accident at the Wuhan laboratory,” the statement concluded.

The United States is not the only one to criticize Beijing for managing the crisis and question of its origins. In mid-April, the United Kingdom warned Beijing that it had to “answer difficult questions about the outbreak of the virus and why it was not stopped earlier”.

The French president Emmanuel Macron, for his part, told the Financial Times that “obviously there are things that have happened that we do not know about”. “Let’s not be naive enough to believe that [the Chinese approach to the epidemic] was much stronger. We don’t know,” the French president said in an interview he gave on Thursday, April 16.

A virus accidentally released while working on HIV

“In any case, the truth always comes out, it is up to the Chinese government to take its responsibility,” said Professor Luc Montagnier, 2008 Nobel Prize winner for medicine to Pourquoi docteur, on 16 April. According to him, SARS-CoV-2 is a virus that was manipulated and accidentally released by the Wuhan Institute of Virology in the last quarter of 2019 while the laboratory was looking for an AIDS vaccine.

“The history of the fish market is a beautiful legend… The hypothesis is that this virus came out of the laboratory because it escaped its promoters, it is the work of a magician! My colleague, the bio-mathematician Jean-Claude Perez and I have looked closely at the genome of this RNA virus,” explains Luc Montagnier. Indian scientists have already tried to publish analytical results that showed that this genome contains sequences of another virus, which was HIV, but they were forced to withdraw, the pressure was too much!”
