He came to the clinic with a 2-inch micropenis, small testicles, and scanty pubic hair. The 34-year-old Pakistani man went to the endocrinology clinic with an unusual ailment: his face, armpits, and pubic hair were very scarce.
Testosterone
Moreover, when the doctors examined him, they also found that his penis was much smaller than average. Once stretched, which doctors often use to simulate erectile length, the 34-year-old man’s penis measured just under two inches.
Having a penis of such length belongs to the category of micropenis, being more than 2.5 standard deviations below the mean.
If we use the results of a 2015 study that measured the penis sizes of 15000 men then a micropenis is any size below 3.3 inches when stretched.
Doctors also found that the volume of his testicles was very low, as was his level of testosterone. The lower limit of testosterone varies from laboratory to laboratory, but any value below 300 nanograms per deciliter (ng/dL) is generally considered low. This 34-year-old man only had 55.99 ng/dL.
Other laboratory work has shown low levels of other reproductive hormones such as follicular stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone. Interviews with this person showed that they had fewer morning erections and no ejaculation.
What was his Diagnosis?
He was diagnosed with idiopathic hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, a relatively rare condition. It is characterized by a state in which the testis do not produce enough male sex hormones. The doctors came to the conclusion that his condition was idiopathic in nature, which means that there were no structural or functional disturbances in his pituitary gland or hypothalamus.
Low testosterone levels can lead to reduced libido, low or increased body fat, decreased erections, reduced energy, reduced muscle mass, depression, and fatigue.
Doctors suggested injecting him with pharmaceutical-grade testosterone to bring his levels to what would be considered normal for a man in his age group. After nine months of testosterone treatment, his testicular volume doubled, his testosterone level was normalized and his penis reached the average adult size which according to the 2015 study for a stretched penis is 5.2 inches.
If you have any signs of testosterone deficiency, talk to your doctor about how to check your results. If your levels are low, you may be a candidate for testosterone replacement therapy which may dramatically improve your quality of life.
