Deca Durabolin: Why Is This Steroid In High Demand By Bodybuilders?

Many steroid users will include Deca Durabolin if they were asked to produce a top 3 list of their favorite steroids. It is probably next in popularity to the insanely popular compound Dianabol. If you are unfamiliar with steroids, this article provides you all the necessary information you need to know about this anabolic steroid.

Deca Durabolin is a popular brand of nandrolone, an anabolic and androgenic steroid (AAS). Popularly called “Deca,” especially among bodybuilders and athletes, this is a derivative of testosterone and a naturally occurring estrane.

Officially, this drug is a 19-nor anabolic-androgen steroid. This is why it is also known as 19-nortestosterone. Deca Durabolin is structurally altered testosterone that lacks the 19th carbon atom. It is basically that simple change that led to the emergence of an entirely different steroid. The structural change also makes nandrolone a progestin with the affinity for the progesterone receptor.

Synthesis of nandrolone first took place in the 1950s, but it made its appearance in 1960. Deca Durabolin, which combines the AAS with a large decanoate ester, was released into the market in 1962 by Organon.

Although it is today seen as synonymous with nandrolone, Deca Durabolin was not the first to feature that AAS. The credit goes to Organon’s own Durabolin, which uses phenylpropionate ester. The main complaint about that version is its shorter half-life, making it compulsory to use more frequently.

A variety of other nandrolone esters, which are not popular in the bodybuilding community, have been marketed over the years. These include nandrolone sulfate, nandrolone cypionate, nandrolone undecanoate, and nandrolone laurate.

Nandrolone is an important compound in a number of anabolic steroids. Popular derivates include trenbolone, oxabolone, and mibolerone.

The anabolic rating of Deca Durabolin is a little higher than that of testosterone – 125 to 100. But the androgenic strength is considerably lower at a rating of 37, compared to the male androgen hormone’s 100. The androgenic rating means it should produce less androgen side effects than testosterone.
